A Hearing Committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia has released its disposition in the case of Dr. Oluwarotimi Fashoranti, a family physician from Pugwash, Nova Scotia, pursuant to Section 66(2) (e) of the Nova Scotia Medical Act. On September 27, 2013, the Committee released a decision that found Dr. Fashoranti guilty of professional misconduct arising from a violation of patient/physician boundaries. The Hearing Committee found that Dr. Fashoranti had engaged in an inappropriate examination of a female patient. Following a resumption of the Hearing in March 2014 where counsel for the College and counsel for Dr. Fashoranti made submissions respecting an appropriate disposition, the College’s Hearing Committee issued its decision dated May 12th as follows: • Dr. Fashoranti’s licence to practice medicine will be suspended for a period of three months commencing July 1, 2014. • Dr. Fashoranti is required to have a chaperone present for any female patient. • Dr. Fashoranti must successfully complete the Understanding Boundaries Course offered by the University of Western Ontario. • Dr. Fashoranti must pay the College costs of the proceedings in the amount of $65,000. LICENCE & PRACTICE CONDITIONS

A practice monitor must be present for all female patient encounters from beginning to end. The Practice Monitor must be a licensed healthcare professional, in good standing and approved by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
Must post College provided signs in all waiting rooms and examination rooms advising patients of his Practice Monitor requirement
